Microdiscectomy

At the Advanced Center for Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery, our specialty-trained orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Warlick is highly skilled in performing microdiscectomy surgery for the treatment of a symptomatic herniated disc. In this procedure, a small incision is made over the low back, and a working window is made in the back of the spine. The disc material that is pressing on nerves is identified, and removed, often with the assistance of a surgical microscope. Only the herniated/injured portion of the disc is removed, with the healthy remaining portion of disc material left in place. Early ambulation is encouraged immediately following the procedure. This is typically an outpatient procedure, with patients often going home the same day as surgery.
